Family Run
Harvest the Fleurieu is a family owned & operated strawberry farm, market hall & cafe located in Mount Compass, South Australia. With three generations of farming knowledge and a passion for sustainable farming and supporting South Australia we pride ourselves on producing some of the finest produce in Australia.
History Snapshot
In 1948, after 9 years of service in the Royal Australian Airforce, Stanley Sherry returned home to South Australia. Buying land in the McLaren Vale region, Stanley settled down with his wife Gwen and soon after, opened a green grocer. As Stanley's business and family grew, he planted a small market garden to fill his shop with his youngest son, Brenton Sherry stepping up to help his dad on the farm.
1978 After studying at Roseworthy college, Brenton’s passion for agriculture and business grew and as Stanley slowly retired, Brenton stepped up to take over the family business.
In 1999, as the business grew, more land was required, and 164 acres was purchased in Kuitpo Forest. This expansion allowed the Sherry family to expand the business to interstate markets and beyond and with that, a thriving business “Kuitpo Forest Strawberries” was born. Over the years the Sherry family built a loyal following at both Willunga Farmers Market & Adelaide Showground Farmers Market and still attend with their quality grown produce to this day.
In 2012 the Sherry family purchased land in Mount Compass which saw the beginning of Harvest the Fleurieu. Their strawberry patch was opened to the public and their pick your own patch quickly became a favourite summer activity among locals. Some may even remember purchasing strawberries out of their little strawberry van which you can still spot on their farm.
After years of dreaming & planning, their biggest venture began with the build of a massive market hall & café in 2016. The market hall was set to be a hub for all things local & delicious stocking fresh produce and artisanal made goods from all over South Australia. The idea was after picking your own sweet strawberries, you could browse the market hall and enjoy house made treats as such fresh ice cream, hot bakery & mouthwatering pastries.
While sharing their passion for the Fleurieu, the Sherry family aim to always provide fresh, local produce & of course the tastiest strawberries & hope to continue this journey with their growing family for many years to come.
